Control Systems

Like all of Veth Propulsion's products, all operating systems are also developed and produced in-house. The Veth control systems (VCS) offer you the opportunity to read out, monitor and analyze data and alarms.

- Integrated L-Drive

The thruster unit is an L-Drive rudder propeller, with an integrated electric motor as primary drive. This results in a very compact thruster design, which reduces the installation and maintenance requirements considerably. As with all Veth rudder propellers, it produces a thrust which can be directed over 360°

Compact thruster

The PM motor was designed in collaboration with Visedo and allows for a much lower mounting height. On average, a PM motor is 40% to 60% more compact than an asynchronous motor. This PM motor is integrated into the thruster and makes a very compact thrusters, when combined with the special mounting method, the alignment of the headsets and the adjustments to the control box. The design makes use of every millimetre, without compromising quality.

Noise reduction

The Veth Integrated L-drive is diesel-electric driven, which results in hugh noise reduction in the first place. The choices Veth Propulsion made for a L-drive (no gear transmission in the vessel), a water-cooled PM-motor (re the air-colled asynchronous motor) and electrical controlling (re hydraulic controlling) guarantees even more noise reduction.

High efficiency and minimal resistance

Because an L-drive has only one gear transmission, it already results in higher efficiency. A PM motor, in particular the part load, is more efficient than an asynchronous motor. At e.g. 25% load, there is an improvement in efficiency of 5.2%.

Operation

For electric propulsion, you can choose between a Veth Z-drive and a Veth L-drive. A Z-drive has 2 gears, whereas an L-drive has 1. Each gear transmission results in a 1% efficiency loss. In addition to higher efficiency, an L-drive is also less expensive to install. That is why an L-drive is preferable, provided there is enough space for the electric motor.
