Engineering Manager, R & D
Location : Racine, WI
Employment Type : Full-Time
This position is responsible for assisting with scheduling activities of the Engineering Department’s Research and Development function with the objective of developing new product lines and expanding existing product lines. This position is responsible for conducting product evaluation tests of units or components as part of the Engineering Research and Development Group. This position also coordinates (directs and schedules) the activities of various team members.
Education
- BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with at least 10 years of experience in product tests and evaluation with supervision
- Equivalent degree and experience in product test and evaluation
- Professional Engineering registration is desirable

Computer Skills:
- Skilled in Microsoft Office 365
- Skilled in Microsoft Project/Planner
- Skilled in creating spreadsheets
- Highly skilled in solving complex engineering problems with a variety of tools.
- Skilled in the use of 3-d modeling, SolidWorks preferred
- Skilled in the use of data acquisition equipment, Dataq, National Instruments, Dewesoft preferred
- Familiar in the application of Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Skilled in the use of PLM, PDM preferred
Communication Skills:
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills and listening skills that allow being able to work with people in all levels of the organization and external customers
- Skill in presentation to communicate updates.
Technical Requirements:
- Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria
- Skilled in testing and analysis of product design
- Ability to analyze and solve problems appropriately, such as mechanical, hydraulic and electronic problems
- Highly skilled in project management
Work Environment:
- Racine, Wisconsin
- Travel required for customer and Twin Disc entity visits both domestically and abroad
Specialized Knowledge:
- Solid understanding of the fundamentals of physics, hydrodynamics, hydraulics, electronic controls, power transmissions and mechanisms as applicable to product research and development
- Skilled in the application of standard practices in test procedures.
- Skilled in supervisory practices and principles
- Skilled in torsional and vibration analysis

Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with direction and supervision of the Research and Development Engineering group.
- Complete, on schedule, approved engineering projects assigned to the department.
- Assist with review of ideas for research, design improvements, product modification, test procedures, test equipment, fixtures, and instrumentation.
- Work with the fundamentals of physics, hydrodynamics, hydraulics, electronic controls, power transmission and mechanisms as applicable to product research and development, devising advance concepts.
- Help develop emerging abilities and skills of research and testing personnel.
- Coordinate available project requirements with the capabilities of the R&D Lab personnel and equipment availability.
- Assist with the oversight of the overall R&D facility, including equipment and facility maintenance.
- Maintain knowledge in the area of engineering expertise.
