Arneson Surface Drives are among the most efficient marine propulsion systems in the world, offering unmatched speed, maneuverability, efficiency and dependability. Compared to installations of competitive propulsion systems, Arneson systems allow greater flexibility of engine placement, affording marine designers, boat builders and boat owners a new freedom of design innovation to maximize both the space throughout the vessel as well as its performance.
Arneson Surface Drives feature a surface-piercing propeller design that reduces underwater drag by 50% compared to conventional submerged propeller systems, resulting in higher speeds, quicker acceleration, and improved payload-to-power ratios. This reduction in drag also enhances fuel economy by up to 15% and lowers operating costs. The drives are engineered to eliminate cavitation, thereby boosting propeller performance and reducing erosion. The trimmable propeller shaft aligns engine power with the hull's planing power curve, enhancing performance and fuel efficiency. Arneson drives enable tighter, more stable turns through vector thrust steering, and their simple, durable design minimizes maintenance and repair costs. The drives are made from high-quality, corrosion-resistant materials and are easy to access for maintenance, making them a reliable, long-lasting propulsion solution.

No other marine propulsion system is so adaptable to such a wide range of engine sizes and types. There’s an Arneson model designed specifically to fit virtually every powerplant option, accommodating torque outputs exceeding up to 30,000 LB-ft.
Learn MoreThe idea for Arneson Surface Drives was conceived by Howard Arneson in the mid to late 1970’s to satiate his desire for a faster, more reliable propulsion system that would hold up under rugged ocean racing conditions. Production began in the early 1980’s and shortly after vessels across racing circuits began seeing immediate results upon implementation. Twin Disc acquired Arneson Surface Drives in 1992 and made them available for non-racing applications – pleasure craft, commercial vessels as well as military applications. Today, Arneson Surface Drives are renowned as the fastest, most efficient, fuel-friendly propulsion systems on the planet.
