- Retractable Thrusters

A retractable thruster utilizes hydraulic lifting and lowering mechanisms, which enable it to withdraw into the hull when not in operation. This design feature provides flexibility and convenience, especially in situations where space constraints or temporary propulsion needs arise.

Advantages Retractable Range

A significant advantage of our retractable range lies in the utilization of components from the Veth standard azimuth thruster lineup. This feature reduces the vessel’s resistance during transit to or from the operation area. Additionally, the thruster’s retraction capability facilitates navigation in shallow waters. By rotating the underwater portion through 360°, the full propulsive power can be harnessed for maneuvering and dynamic positioning (DP) of the vessel.

Compact Design

Veth retractable thrusters are available with a vertical retraction system, minimizing space requirements within the vessel. Both Z-drive and L-drive options are offered to match vessel types based on varying inboard height availability. Notably, the Veth retractable thruster starts at 50 kW (VL-50).

Swing-Out System

The Veth Swing Out utilizes components from the Veth standard azimuth thruster range. It can be hydraulically lowered out of the vessel’s hull and steered limitlessly through 360 degrees once fully unfolded. Particularly advantageous for mega yachts, the retractability of the Veth Swing Out offers significant benefits for large vessels. It enhances vessel maneuverability, allowing more precise steering during port entry and departure. Retracting the auxiliary propulsion units when no longer needed, especially during open-sea cruising, contributes to improved speed, reduced fuel consumption, and lower CO2 emissions.

Portable Jackup thrusters

The Veth Propulsion team has developed an innovative and portable system specifically for making Jackup Barges self-propelled. This system includes retractable L drives housed in an easily installable unit. These portable L-drives are equipped with containers holding diesel-electric power packs. The dual dynamic positioning system in the control container fully automates the operation of these drives. With a 360-degree range, the independently operated Veth L drives ensure optimal barge positioning in all conditions, facilitated by Dynamic Positioning that maintains the barge’s position at all times.
