Veth Propulsion

Azimuth Thrusters

Veth Azimuth Thrusters are well-suited for a wide range of vessels, thanks to our flexibility and customization. Your preferences serve as the foundation, with several options, configurations, and drive lines to choose from. Our azimuth thrusters are available in either Z-drive or L-drive configurations and can be powered by any energy source. The control system for the azimuth system can be either electric or hydraulic. Additionally, the thruster units come with options for open propellers, counter-rotating propellers or nozzles.

L-drive

The L-Drive system incorporates azimuth thrusters with vertically mounted electric motors, eliminating the need for a second bevel gear in the drivetrain. This design modification leads to enhanced efficiency and reduced noise levels.

Z-drive

The Z-Drive utilizes a gear train that forms two right-angle turns, creating a shape resembling the letter “Z.” This design connects the drive motor to the azimuth thruster for efficient propulsion.

Deck Mounted Thrusters

Deck Mounted Thrusters

Deck mounted thrusters find application in scenarios where internal hull machinery space is lacking or when temporary propulsion solutions are necessary. These thrusters, which combine both propulsion and steering, can be conveniently placed directly on the vessel’s deck. They are commonly employed in various vessels, including barges, ferries, and Jack-up vessels.

Versions

The deck set is available in four different versions:

  • Permanent emplacement
  • Lifting: rudder propeller is raised/lowered vertically
  • Tilting: rudder propeller can be tilted at an angle
  • Combination of lifting and tilting
Lifting

For optimal efficiency, the propeller should be positioned below the vessel’s baseline. However, when navigating in shallow waters, constraints arise regarding propeller placement. An adjustable-height thruster offers a solution. This lifting system consists of two sliding rods near the upper gearbox and a clamp encircling the vertical outer tube of the thruster. Hydraulic cylinders facilitate precise vertical movement of the entire thruster.

Tilting

Clearing debris from a propeller becomes more manageable when the thruster can be tilted. The inclusion of hydraulic cylinders and a reinforced upper gearbox results in an easily operable tilting system. Moreover, this design allows for propeller replacement without requiring dry-docking of the vessel. A tilting system proves particularly valuable when a vessel navigates waters abundant with floating debris.
